In 2024, Microsoft announced the end of its HoloLens range.
For industrial end-users who have been involved in augmented reality projects for years, this decision marked a delicate turning point.
Because since 2016, many have:
- Developed proof of concept and operational deployments
- Structured internal processes and formed teams
- Obtained budgets and managerial validations
- Integrated tools like Microsoft Guides into their workflows
A worrying observation: from December 31, 2027, these investments will partially become obsolete due to the lack of software support and security patches from Microsoft.
The challenge: there is no direct replacement today. No augmented reality headset covers all industrial needs, and the available alternatives require major adaptations.
That’s why for more than a year, Reapse Consulting has been exploring the market, acquiring and evaluating four industrial AR helmets and three hybrid solutions.
Even if none perfectly replace HoloLens, some have significant advantages – provided they can be identified, tested, and adapted to specific industrial contexts.

- Make an objective inventory of the available solutions
- Compare options based on technical and business constraints
- Find concrete ways to sustain their projects
Why? Because we have encountered too many demoralized teams, forced to abandon years of work due to a lack of clear alternatives.
